 9:00 am        Rainwater Harvesting                          

Bexar County Master Gardeners 

 

Rainwater harvesting is an option anyone can use to augment his or her water supply. To sum it up, rainwater harvesting captures and stores the water for later uses, to include landscaping and also in attracting and providing water for wildlife.                                     Question and Answer session to follow.

             John Marrs ( Marrs Gardens ) and Shane Dunford (Natures Herb Farm)

 

These local herbal know-it-alls will share their expertise in growing herbs and other plants for your landscape.  Their focus includes incorporating an organic or natural approach in making your setting both beautiful and useful.                                                      Question and Answer session to follow.

                                    Judy Barrett, Founder, Editor & Publisher of HOMEGROWN

 

As author and editor of HOMEGROWN:  Good Sense Organic Living for Texas,  Judy will visit with us on how to garden successfully and develop Old Fashioned Gardens, while having and maintaining  a positive impact on the environment.  Plan on attending this session and visiting with Judy at her booth.

Chef Cathy will feature a recipe from the new cookbook, Cooking with Les Dames d’Escoffier.  This amazing dish features our State’s own Texas Shrimp.  Make sure to visit the Les Dames herbal booth outside for treats and cookbooks and stop by Cappy’s for fabulous food at 5011 Broadway in San Antonio !  Say hi to Cathy while you’re there!

 

2:00 pm      Calendula and Comforting Herbs

                                                            Shari Anderson-Kilman, Clinical Herbalist, Omni Star Farm

 

Shari is a working herbalist, grower and teacher, operating OmniStar Farm in Boerne for 30 years. Join us as Shari discusses medicinal uses of calendula and other comforting herbs in dealing with allergies and skin problems.                                                                                                                         Question &  Answer session to follow.            

 

4:00 pm      Tool Sharpening

Dr.Tom Harris (Gardening Volunteers of South Texas , Master Gardener, and Gardening Columnist)

 

OK, so you’re finally ready to do the work in your yard or garden that you have been putting off because your tools have been too hard to work with.   Basically, they need sharpening, and you don’t know how to do that.  Dr. Harris will show us how to properly and safely sharpen your yard’s best friends. And for those who don’t want the hassle, come prepared, as a small donation will send you home with your tools sharpened.  Notes encouraged - Be prepared to learn from the best!
